Street Names

The Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei street signs project was created to inform and educate descendants of NWO, residents of Orākei and the wider eastern and central Auckland communities alike, of the stories and origins behind the street names in Orākei and across Auckland.

These street signs play an integral part in the representation of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei as mana whenua in Tāmaki Makaurau and are permanent yet subtle portrayals of our presence within the city.

There are 26 street names in total which are divided into 3 groups below.
