What do I need to do to register on the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Hapū Database?
You need to be able to:
Who can receive a grant or be registered for a programme or service?
All registered Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei hapū members. If you have not registered, click here.
Please note the hapū registration process can take up to 2 months.
How can I find out whether I am a registered hapū member?

When can I apply for a grant, programme or service?
Most of the grants, programmes and services are open from February 2019 and will close on 31st of May 2019 and re-open 22nd July and close 29th November 2019.
How many times can I apply for a grant?
You can only apply once for a grants, services, programmes each year. You cannot apply for the same grant twice in one year.
What documentation will I need to provide?
If you are applying for a grant, you will need to provide a verified copy of your bank account.
If you are applying for a Tertiary grant you will need to provide a document that shows enrolment confirmation, EFT and fees payable. If you are unsure what to provide please contact us via email orakeied@ngatiwhatuaorakei.com
What if I am studying part-time (Tertiary)?
You will receive a pro-rata amount of the full grant. The amount will be determined by how many papers you are taking this year.
How much is an education grant worth?
Early Childhood Education (0-4 Years): $300.00
Primary (Yr 1 – 8): $300.00
Secondary (Yr 9 – 13): $300.00
Training & Vocational full-time: $500.00
Certificate/Diploma full-time: $500.00
Undergraduate Degree full-time: $1,000.00
Post-Graduate Degree full-time: $1,500.00
Masters full-time: $4,000.00
PHD full-time: $5,000.00
Digital Device – Year 6 – Year 13 Students **New**
This year Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei are giving Year 6 – Year 13 students the option of an Education Grant or Digital Device that can be used for school (e.g. Chromebook). For more information about the devices please contact us orakeied@ngatiwhatuaorakei.com
How long will a grant application take to process and be paid?
If all criteria is met, the application will be processed and paid to the nominated bank account within 10 working days of receipt of application.

What is the difference between a Tertiary certificate or diploma course and a training/vocational course?
The training/vocational course option is to accomodate for those courses that may not be a recognised NZQA qualification, but has a employment pathway. Approval of this grant application will be at the discretion of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Whai Maia.
